Party Bingo History

Party Bingo first made its appearance in the United States somewhere in the early 1800s and slowly grew in popularity as the years came on. Bingo is a direct descendent of lottery-type games and its roots can be traced back into Europe, to the year 1530, when the Italian State run game of Lo Giuco de Lotto was organized. Over the centuries, an offshoot of that game spread through Europe and took on a form whereby a player’s card was divided into three horizontal rows and nine vertical ones. The first vertical row contained numbers from 1-10, the second from 11-20, the third from 21-30, and so on until the ninth vertical row, which contained numbers from 81-90. Party Bingo
The horizontal rows contained five numbered squares and four blank ones and the object of the game was to completely cover a horizontal row. The blank squares were free squares, much like the middle free square in today’s game, so that the player needed to have the five numbered squares called. PartyBingo
Each player was dealt a single card, no two of which were alike, and would wait patiently (or impatiently) as the caller drew numbers from a bag that contained 90 wooden chips numbered from 1-90.
Bingo in its current form grew out of the depression and was immediately a big hit with the American public looking for a diversion from the everyday drudgery of life. Party Bingo Bonus Code
As its fundraising potential was realized by churches and other groups, Bingo grew in astronomical proportions and spread coast to coast like a fire out of control. By the mid 1930s, thousands and thousands of bingo games were played every week, and this flourishing game became firmly established as an important pastime for many players.
On the East Coast, New Jersey legalized the game in 1954 and was followed by New York in 1959. As other states realized the popularity of bingo and its value to state revenues, the game grew and grew until it could be found just about anywhere.
